folded paper pendant

straight folded paper pendant
twisted folded paper pendant
Supplies:  Two pieces of  20" x 3/4" cardstock,  one  2 1/2 " headpin, 2 flat beads, two metal disks with a hole in the center, glue (Scotch quick-dry adhesive), paint (I used Making Memories scrapbook paint in honeydew), drill with a 1/16" drill bit, block of scrap wood.

To Make:  Cut the paper to size.  Both sides of the paper will be seen in the finished pendant.  I used cardstock that was white on one side and gold on the other.  I didn't care for the white with the gold.  For the next one I made, I first painted the white side of the paper green.

Glue the two pieces of paper, forming an "L".  Let dry.  Starting with the bottom piece, fold the paper strips back upon itself, alternating between the two strips.  Make sure the edges of the paper are neatly aligned.  Repeat until there isn't enough paper to make a complete fold.  Trim off the excess with scissors or x-acto knife.  Glue last two pieces of paper together.
Now the tricky part - drilling a hole through the paper stack.  Find the center of the stack and mark it lightly in pencil.  Place the paper stack on a scrap block of wood and carefully holding onto the paper, dill a hole straight down through the entire paper stack.  I used a variable speed power drill - and drilled at a very slow speed.

Next glue a metal disk to each end of the paper stack and let dry.  Slip a flat bead onto the head pin and then thread the pin through the paper stack.  Slide another flat disk onto the headpin and then bend the pin into a loop (how to here).  To make the twisted version -  hold the top of the stack in one hand and the bottom in the other and gently twist the paper in opposite directions.  Thread the pendant onto a chain or cord through the loop just created.
